Although it seems like a simple task, many aren’t aware of the proper methods for caring and cleaning glass mirrors around their home or office.  I’m sure you’ve seen or heard of the many cleaning products out there, but the truth is, care and cleaning mirrors are actually quite simple.  Refer to the tips below for quality care and cleaning of mirrors from Bell Mirror & Glass.

  • The best way to clean glass is to use clean, warm water with a soft, lint free cloth.  If you are using a commercial cleaner, make sure the product doesn’t contain ammonia or vinegar.
  • Avoid using acid or alkali cleaners for cleaning mirrors.  These types of products can ruin the front surface, edges and backing of the mirror after installation.
  • Never use abrasive cleaners on any glass mirrors.
  • Whenever caring for your glass, try and avoid getting the edges or backing of the mirror wet.  If they do get wet, try and dry them off as soon as possible.
  • If your trying to remove surface marks or stubborn dirt, it’s best to use 0000 oil-free steel wool.  Avoid using solvents because they can ruin the edges and backing of the mirror.
  • If using commercial cleaning products, never spray directly onto the face of a mirror.  It’s best to apply the cleaner to a soft, lint free cloth then wipe mirror.
