Recycling is very important to the health of our environment that is very slowly decaying.  Everyone has heard of global warming and the hole in the ozone layer.  It is important to do our part in global recycling to benefit the environment and the health of everyone as well as future generations.  Recycling glass is easy and there are many local places to do it, the recycling of old glass jars and bottles helps make new glass bottles from the same materials.  Recycling glass saves raw materials, lessens demand for energy and cuts CO2 emissions, which creates huge environmental pay offs.  This produces many environmental benefits like:
  • Saves Raw Materials – Over a ton of natural resources are conserved for every ton of glass recycled: 1,300 pounds of sand, 410 pounds of soda ash, 380 pounds of limestone and 160 pounds of feldspar.
  • Lessens demand for energy – Energy costs drop about 2-3% for every 10% cullet used in the manufacturing process.
  • Cuts CO2 emissions – For every 6 tons of recycled container glass used, a ton of carbon dioxide is reduced.
  • Extends furnace life – Including cullet in the manufacturing mix makes it less corrosive and lowers the melting temperature 200 degrees, prolonging furnace life.
  • No Processing by-products – Glass recycling is a closed loop system, creating no additional waste or by-products.
At Bell Mirror & Glass we provide superior custom glass and mirror services.  Each piece of glass we provide is cut specifically for your particular project.  All things glass is our business, and we encourage everyone to recycle every shard of glass that you do not use.  In the long run this will benefit everyone as well as our planet.  So recycle your old glass and contact Bell Mirror & Glass to start your next project today, whether it be a new storm window, shower enclosure, glass display case or anything you can think of.
