The United States Government shutdown late last Monday and has yet to re-open its doors.  Congress failed to pas a funding bill that would prevent the disruption of government services.  Although the government agencies were ordered to "execute plans for an orderly shutdown," the most essential government services will continue their operations as usual while the lack of funding will cause other services to cease their operations completely.  ksn.com has put together a list of what will be open and what will be closed in Kansas, including:
  • Brown vs. Board of Education National Historic Site is closed.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene is closed.
  • Tallgrass Prairie Preserve and Fort Larned are also closed.
  • 700 Kansas National Guard personnel were sent home.
  • The lack of resolution to the federal budget means thousands of employees at the Army's Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth will be furloughed until further notice.
  • In Wichita, more than 300 civilian employees are going to be out of work at McConnell Air Force Base.
The entire country is feeling the effects of our Government's shutdown.  For a more complete list of closed establishments please visit http://goo.gl/5HacJw.  Hopefully the budget crisis will be resolved as soon as possible!
