The rules of decorating are ever changing along with people and the times that we live in.  To stay current with people and fads, fashion and décor must change regularly.  This fact has led to the conclusion that there are no rules in decorating anymore.  This allows us to disprove old myths about interior decorating.  Here is a list of our top 5 busted myths.
1.       Small rooms must be white, or a pale neutral color: While this is partially true, the size and scale of a room have less to do with the color and more with the size and placement of the furniture throughout the room.
2.       Small rooms must have small furniture:  if you have a small house or living space with the combination of tiny furniture it will only remind you how small your space is and make it feel like a dollhouse.  Where space is limited think quality over quantity, you want to think in terms of style and function.
3.       Don’t mix patterns and prints: there is no better way to add color texture and portions of your own personality to a room, then by combining various patterns together in one space.  To be successful in accomplishing this you want to stick to one color pallet and not mix many different pallets.
4.       Stick to one focal point: we as humans are not one dimensional by any means, so why should our rooms be?  By giving each wall in the room its own focal point you are adding texture as well as your own sense of style.
5.       The most important piece of furniture is your couch: this really all depends on your home and your lifestyle.  If you are in your TV room then yes, the couch might be the most important piece of furniture.  But maybe the room is where you eat most of your meals, then the table might be the most important, overall the most important piece of furniture can only  be decided by the person utilizing the room.
Decorating your home has become less of a guided task and more of an expression of ourselves and our personalities.  The rules are changing and being broken, decorating is now an art of expression and you can determine your own rules.  For a full list of busted myths please visit http://freshome.com/2013/07/10/decorating-myths-debunked/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+FreshInspirationForYourHome+%28Freshome.com%29
